Former Texas A&M QB named as the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas’ starter

Over the last two decades of Texas A&M football, the quarterback position has seen its share of memorable seasons. While Johnny Manziel’s historic 2012 Heisman-winning season continues to shine as one of the great moments in A&M history, Kellen Mond’s 4-year career and three seasons as the Aggie’s starter is still discussed.

From 2017-2020, Mond threw for 9,661 yards, 71 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions while rushing for 1,609 yards and 22 scores on the ground. Alongside the former Florida QB Tim Tebow and former Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott, Mond finished his Texas A&M career as one of three QBs to throw for 9,000 passing yards and rush for 1,500 yards in SEC history.

As a former five-star prospect, Mond’s talent was never an issue, leading to him being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. However, his NFL career was short-lived after the Vikings cut him before the 2021 season. He then had a short one-year stint with Cleveland and two practice squad appearances with Indianapolis and New Orleans in 2023 and 2024.

With plenty of football left in his playing career, Mond signed with the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas in October. As of Friday, it was revealed that the San Antonio, Texas native is back in a starting position with a chance to get his career back on track.
