Tennessee will play NCAA Tournament game at a league counterpart arena for second time

No. 2 seed Tennessee (27-7) will open play in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. Tennessee will compete in the first round at a venue the Vols played at on Feb. 11.

The Vols will face No. 15 seed Wofford (19-15) at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. Tennessee lost to Kentucky, 75-64, during the regular season.

The Tennessee-Wofford basketball game will mark the second time the Vols will play a NCAA Tournament contest at an arena of a league counterpart. Syracuse defeated the Vols in overtime, 93-89, on March 13, 1977 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Tipoff between the Vols and Terriers is slated for 6:50 p.m. EDT on Thursday. TNT will televise the first-round matchup in the Midwest Region. Brian Anderson, Jim Jackson and Allie LaForce will be on the call.

The winner between Tennessee and Wofford will advance to play against UCLA or Utah State in the NCAA Tournament second round.
